Let’s take a look at chord/scales to get us started with improvising on the changes to ‘Feel Like Makin’ Love’ by Eugene McDaniels. Please keep in mind, these are suggested scales. You can certainly use others.
Let’s start with Fm7 and Bb7sus4. We are working with the same note collection here, but changing position.
The previous chords form a ii-V progression. Here we resolve to the I chord, Ebmaj7.
Now for some fun with dominant 7th chords. Db7#11 and C7 will help move the harmony back towards Fm7.
And so again, we have the ii-V-I in our key of Eb.
Moving in a new direction, we set up Abmaj7 with a secondary dominant motion V/IV. Eb Super Locrian is also known as the Altered Scale.
We will now be able to stick closely to the key of Eb note collections. Just be aware of how the notes interact with the chords.
At the end of the progression, we’ll find these to chord/scales helpful for Db7 and F7.

Thanks, Jim. Great stuff! Would you consider writing a short one chorus etude? Also, you might like to check out this link, 12:34 min. but entirely worth it: https://youtu.be/2vR0YZnDUa8?si=DzRFe7qOxR2PF3tZ
